"Danger, Will Robinson “Warning! Warning! The Daily Raw is about to delve in shameless self-promotion.

Okay, here we go. I broke down and nominated The Daily Raw for the Bloggers Choice Awards for Best Food Blog and Best Design Blog and I was the first (and only) person to vote for The Daily Raw (I know, I know, oh the shame).

Tag you're it! If you dig The Daily Raw and think it's good enough to compete with the other food blogs in the blogsphere. Then vote. The banner is to the left.
If you think I don't have a snowballs chance in H-E-double-hockey-sticks to get your vote, that's cool too. There's always next year, I'm not going anywhere and I'm sure you'll come around. :)
If you like what I'm doing with the Daily Raw and you want to have a more personal connection, don't forget to sign up for a subscription. And if you're already in a committed blog relationship, that's cool too. Sign up for a subscription anyway. I won't tell. ;)
Don't forget to come back tomorrow and see what "What's that Food" is all about.

    THOD SOW FAT HAT? #1

or What's that Food? Get it? It's an anagram.

I love food, words and games. I wanted to find a way to combine all three. I hope with this little ditty I have.

The 411: Every Saturday, I'll post a picture of a food and an anagram clue, you guess what the food is in the comments section. The answer to the previous week's picture will appear on Saturday's blog also.

    The rules:
    1. No cooked food, this is a raw food site, duh.
    2. The photo could be of items I have already posted.
    3. All letters are used. No leftovers.

Good luck and have fun playing!

  • Terilynn's Notes

    Terilynn's Notes

The whole point of me not blogging on Saturday and Sunday was for me to take a few days off and chill. Want to do a poll on whether or not you think I chilled? Yeah, I don’t want to touch that poll either. I prepared recipes from the Complete Book of Raw Food, wrote new recipes, read a book or two for reviews, watched Food, Inc, went to an Oscar party, spent time in the garden, planned for future posts. Okay, so not all my weekend plans were the Daily Raw Café related.

In the quest to find some sort of uniformity with the Daily Raw Café and my life, being unemployed I have more time to play here with you guys. The Daily Raw pleasantly passes the time and causes me not to be so depressed that I’m unemployed. Moving forward, Mondays at the Daily Raw will be an overview of what’s to come for the week.
I apologize, I lost my train of thought. Really one should not blog if one is dog tired from Oscar parties.

Mondays yes, that was what we were discussing. Mondays and now, the strange, warm Colorado weather.

This Colorado weather may be pulling the wool over Man on the Raw’s eyes, but I am not fooled. I know there is at least one more big snow coming our way, I don’t care if we are experiencing warm, sunny days with nary a cloud in the sky.
It’s insane that Man on the Raw wants to plant seeds in our garden now before our traditional Mother’s Day seed shopping spree. I would have been upset if he hadn’t unearthed, from the far depths of our soil, a huge bowl full of Jerusalem Artichoke aka Sunchokes. He grabbed enough to convince me seeding early would be worth breaking tradition. On Friday I will share with you a bit of history behind Jerusalem Artichokes and a recipe or two. Tomorrow I will announce the winner of the "Becoming Raw" book, but it's not too late to enter, you have until tonight.

Tuesday, you will be in good company with the lovely Penni Shelton of Real Food Tulsa when she gives us her 10 Thoughts. Wednesday, I will share some munchie recipes from The Complete of Raw Food and a bit of my obsessive compulsive tendencies when I strive to create a crispy vegetable chip.
For today, I’m sharing photos of our garden. Of course, we are going to plant early. Kale, collards, spinach and I think beets, will do nicely for now. Hearty vegetables that will survive any upcoming snow storm.

Do me a favor, drop Man on the Raw a comment or two and ask him to tell you his composting secrets. All the juice pulp I produce and the shavings of leftover fruits and vegetables are saved for his compost pile. Man on the Raw creates the richest soil I have ever encountered, and it's all made by him using our compost, dirt and leaves, etc. If you want to know more about composting and making soil, probe him a bit, I bet you he’ll spill it.

  • DAY 9 of 92

My first week of juice feasting went really well. Not too many cravings, the one for salsa the first day was satisfied with salsa juice.

I haven’t been hungry, I feel very satisfied, though, some days I don’t drink my gallon of juices.

My allergies are bugging me, I don’t know if it’s because of the season or detox symptoms.

The only thing that might be cause for concern is that I haven’t had too many BM on my own. I have the rumbles in the tumbles but all that comes out is air. Let’s see if you can figure that one out.

I’m doing the enemas so what needs to exit is exiting but I’ll give it a few days to see what’s up.

This weekend my darling husband (who went off his liquid fast) had the bright idea to go to The People’s Fair, where there are tons of (overpriced) savory smelling cooked foods that had me in tears begging to go home so I can make a juice.

No matter what how much I believe fresh fruits and vegetables are better than cooked food and animals are slaughtered everyday for their meat, I had to admit those giant turkey legs looked good.

    Hey, I’m only human.

Yes, I gazed at all that food and said I’m only a few days in “what’s the harm if I ate a corn on the cob?”

I even thought, “Gee, who’s going to know if that powdered sugar-coated funnel cake magically disappeared down my throat?”

Then it came to like a lightning bolt. Me. I would know. The commitment I made to myself to complete a 92-day feast would be gone.

I am more than my cravings and I know this, I am woman hear me roar.

So I went to the “Country Lemonade” stand and paid them my seven tickets for a large ice water with lime.

    What I drank today:

    • H2O with lemon (1 quart)
    • pineapple/peach/red leaf lettuce juice (4 quarts)
    • coconut water/ 1 T chlorophyll (1 quart)
    • H2O

  • Seaweed!

  • Garden of Eatin'

    Garden of Eatin'

You know what I realized? I don't start my posts with any sort of greetings. No “hello,” “how are you doing,” “what's happening," nada. So from this day forward I am saying howdy.

    Howdy! There much better.

I am sooo excited! One month from today, I will be checking in as a student at the Living Light Culinary Arts Institute. Woo hoo!

I can’t believe it, I have wanted to attend Living Light for over 6 years. One of the reasons Daily Raw Café exists is my desire to learn how to prepare raw foods.

It’s bizarre, I have never had the slightest interest in preparing cooked dishes at a culinary level, but there is something about using only living/raw ingredients and creating amazing dishes that stokes the fire within.

Somewhere along the way, I must have got an inkling of my raw culinary destiny. When I did a raw food demo at the Raw Spirit Fest in 2008, guess who introduced me? Go ahead, guess. You’ll never guess. Okay, pull my leg why don’t you? It was the founder of Living Light herself, Cherie Soria who introduced me as a chef! Wild and crazy.

I would have fainted right there if I didn’t have to show a room full of people how to make raw Thai Food.

How’s that for the Universe/Higher Power/God leaving a proverbial bread crumb.

So I followed the promising trail and here I am a month and a day (classes start on July 10th) from a new raw adventure.

On to garden. I love my garden. It is growing so beautifully and it’s such a zen experience tending to it. We won’t be getting our greens from the grocery store this summer. We are S-E-T. We have been blessed with an abundance of kale, lettuce, mixed greens, beet greens, weeds that taste like beets and so much more. We are juicing them, using them in smoothies, but here are a few of the dishes I have created showcasing greens from our garden. I hope you enjoy.

This is truly a garden salad. Man on the Raw and I literally cut greens and piled them in our bowls and ate [and laughed and kissed and stuff ;)] in the garden. It was nice, very nice.

    “Garden” Salad

Serves One Adam and his Eve

    ½ lemon, juiced
1 tablespoon hemp oil, or your favorite oil
1 garden full of your choice of greens
pinch of sea salt, or more to taste

Stir lemon juice and oil in your bowl. Add the sea salt . Fill your bowl up with greens from your garden. Toss gently with a fork, mixing all ingredients together.

Note on photo: On my salad I preferred ½ of avocado and hemps seeds instead of the oil.

  • Matt Amsden's Recipes

    Matt Amsden's Recipes

Is it just me or are there really talented singers on American Idol. Wow, this is the first time I have watched AI faithfully and I am amazed by the talent. Was it like this in past seasons? Tell me.

The only censure I would have is Randy starting his comments with “So, yo.” or “Dawg, yo.” or “Dude, yo” Yo, what’s up with that?

I predict that Crystal Bowersox will take it all. I think she is fabulous, she seems down-to-earth and very cool.

Recipes. If my calculations are correct, these three recipes will complete all the recipes by Matt Amsden from the Complete Book of Raw Food endeavor. Here and here are his others. I have stopped numbering the recipes but if you would like to see how many recipes I have completed, check it out here.
On the pierogi, I had a tough time with the jicama slicing even after bringing out my heavy-duty mandoline. I couldn’t get a full “paper-thin” round at times. So I took the thicker rounds (about ¼-inch) and cut them in half. No worries.

    Other than that...

Man on the Raw adored the Cheese Pierogi, p. 118, he ate them up something fierce. The children adored the Carob Walnut Fudge. p. 292, and I nearly fell off my juice feast lusting after the Seaweed Chowder, p. 102. My taste buds are obsessed with seaweed.

Thanks to everyone who are sharing their raw commuities, keep them coming.

  • Taking Time off

I'm taking time off from the feast. I'm very proud of the 28 days I completed and I plan to feast another day.

I want to thank all of you who have offered support, your words of encouragement means the world to me.

The Daily Raw will focus more on living food preparation, that's where my heart is so I feel it's the most natural progression.

I remain committed to giving my body the healthiest possible environment and that hasn't changed and I believe in my heart that living foods is what's best for my body.

I hope you enjoy the direction the Daily Raw takes and continue to read it.

    Thank you,

    Teri

  • Recipe #47 of the Complete Book of Raw Food Endeavor

Recipe #47 of the Complete Book of Raw Food Endeavor

You can’t get any simpler than Jameth and Kim’s Original Flax Crackers, p. 168.
One cup of flax seeds and 1 ½ cups water. There you go, that’s it.
Of course there’s the customary soaking of the seeds, using purified water and the dehydrating at 110 degrees for a day or two. Surely a small price to pay for a cracker filled with Omega-3 fatty acids.

The recipe is a basic flax cracker recipe. A great jumping off place to make your own creations, playing with spices and seasonings.

One of my favorites is raisin flax crackers, you don’t get a crispy cracker with raisins but I love chewy-ness of it.
What about you? What’s your favorite flavor flax cracker?

  • Keeping Track of the Recipes from The Complete Book of Raw Food

Keeping Track of the Recipes from The Complete Book of Raw Food

For the next few months (or year?) The Daily Raw Blog will work its way through the 350 plus recipes in “The Complete Book of Raw Food” edited by Lori Baird and Julie Rodwell.

Modifications: Did you notice I was changing some of the recipes? Well, that's going to happen. I'm not a purist as far as this endeavor goes, and there will be some changes based on lack of ingredients, equipment, ambition, etc. I will let you know what I did or didn't do. No biggie.

Recipes. Have you bought the book yet? If not, I don't blame you. I'm not hating, I'm broke, too (but I'm going to win the Powerball any day now).

The recipes posted will be my versions of the original recipe or if the recipe is really, really good and I will forget about copyrights for a moment.

    If not...

Here are some suggestions for if you want the recipes I don't print:

#1 go to the page number in the book (if you have it)

#2 try the link of the creator of the recipe. They might have it on their website.

    #3 Google it

If you still can't find it or just too lazy to do the above mentioned (don't worry, I ain't mad at you), shoot me an email (yahoo.com) and I'll type it and send it to you. On the downlow, of course. Shh.

But don't get carried away. Believe it or not I do have a life away from the computer. Okay that was a total lie, I'm constantly on the computer.

But I have to make an appearance in front of the kids or they get worried how their going to be fed. This little challenge of mine is to have fun. I'm having a total ball doing it and I hope you enjoy reading about it.

Anyhoo, I thank you bunches for reading my blog after my hiatus and I have it on good authority that I will be around for a very long time.
