A Blended Salad is a mixture of raw, leafy greens and other foods blended together to create a smooth, creamy consistency. Eating a salad prepared in this manner is quick, convenient and increases absorption of important nutrients.

Recipe #37 of the Complete Book of Raw Food Endeavor.

This is a pretty standard recipe and the beauty of the salad is you can add your favorite vegetables to eat.

Blended Salad by Paul Nison, p. 93
1 handful leafy greens (lettuce and spinach work best)
    1/2 cucumber
    1 stalk celery
    1/2 lemon, juiced
    1 handful sunflower sprouts (optional)
    1/2 red pepper (optional)
    1 avocado
    1 teaspoon flaxseed oil (optional)
    1 tomato

    Blend all ingredients and serve.

    Asparagus
Select — Spears with a vibrant color and no bruises or blemishes. The buds at the tip should be tightly close. Peak Season: March to May

Store — Remove any bands that bind the spears together and put the bases of the steams in a jar filled with 2” of water. Change the water daily to keep asparagus fresh longer. Refrigerate for up to 3 days.
Trim — Hold one end of the asparagus spear in each hand and bend the stalk. It will naturally break at the point where it is tough.

    The Best Intentions for V-Day
    RAW RECIPE (photos)

I promise I had the best intentions. I had a beautiful menu planned for you for this Thursday. Each day this week I would focus on a different course for you to seduce your sweetie into a meal he or she would always remember.

The foreplay of the evening would have been the Sweet and Spicy Neptune Salad Cocktail, followed by a bit of cool Cucumber soup or maybe a Shaved Fennel salad with cranberries. Moving on to main event it was a Mushroom Ragu and Chickpea Polenta with Asparagus Rolls. The climax was Cheesecakes Shots with Blueberry sauce.

    RAW RECIPE (photos)

I like to cuddle after. Do you like to cuddle? I thought you might cuddle with a Fruit Platter of pineapple cubes, strawberries and raspberries with two spicy chocolate sauces for dipping and feeding . One laced with cayenne and the other with cinnamon.

Time escaped me and I really couldn't indulge in such an extravagant venture, you know the juice feasting thing.

Now before you leave in a huff and curse me for being such a tease or so you won't wear "that shirt" that says "I visited The Daily Raw Blog and all I got was this stinking T-shirt"...try this, to soothe the savage beast.

A sweet and fiery concoction that will most definitely set the fires ablazing. Here folks to get your party started is the.....

    RAW RECIPE (photos)

Sweet and Spicy Neptune Salad Cocktail
2 cups finely diced coconut meat
2 tablespoon finely diced red onion
1 Holland chili (or another red-colored chili or pepper), finely diced
2 long pieces of dried seaweed, broken into small pieces, save extra for garnish
    1 tablespoon honey
    1 tablespoon coconut butter
    Juice of one lime juice
    1 teaspoon sea salt
    2 lettuce leaf
1 ripe avocado, peeled and cut into slices
A few sprigs of cilantro for garnish

1 Toss coconut meat, onion, chilies and seaweed in a bowl.

2 Whisk together honey, coconut butter, lime juice and sea salt until the honey and coconut butter dissolves a bit, creating a smooth consistency. Pour into bowl with coconut meat. Marinate at least an hour.

3 Place lettuce leaf in the bottom of cocktail glass. Place a heaping amount of Neptune salad on top of leaf. Garnish with avocado, cilantro and a few flakes of seaweed.

    Servings: 2

After you finish eating the salad, sip on the juice that have collected in the bottom of the glasses.

    Have a very happy V-Day!

Recipe #24 of the Complete Book of Raw Food Endeavor
    RAW FOOD (photos)

Today’s recipe started out as Shazzie’s Guacamole (p. 274) but spiraled into our own creation. I’m sure we aren’t doing anything new and spectacular with this recipe but it’s ours all the same. Or shall I say it belongs to Avery. She kind of took over the kitchen when avocados entered the picture. She should be called Baby Avocado, she eats them with a passion. Just takes a spoon and scoops the sweet flesh from its shell. She was very insistent when it came to preparing this recipe.

    Guacamole
    4 Hass Avocados, halved, pitted
    2 tomatoes, seeded, chopped
1 red chile pepper, seeds and ribs removed, finely chopped*
    2 garlic cloves, minced
    Juice of two limes
1 ½ teaspoon sea salt, or more to taste

Scoop the flesh from the avocado halves into a large bowl, add the tomatoes, pepper, garlic, lime juice and sea salt. Smash all the ingredients together with a potato masher until you get a smooth, yet slightly chunky consistency.

*If a guacamole with more heat is what you seek, add the chile’s seeds to the mix.

    RAW FOOD (photos)

Note: If the mood strikes you, add a handful of cilantro leaves and a tablespoon or two of chopped white onion . We were out, but I know for a fact they are welcome additions.

Guess what I received in the mail today? Yep, you guessed it. My skates, helmet, knee, elbow and wrist pads. Wow! You are good at guessing.

A few of us at work are going to train to be Roller Derby girls. Neat, huh? Well, hold on. A more acurate deplication is we are really going to do the skating and leave the actual aggressive physical contact to the professionals. I'm open though. If I turn out to be a phenomenal skater and develop a very high tolerance for getting a beat-down on a semi-regular basis, than maybe, just maybe I would try out for a real team.

In the mean-time, there are a few important things I have to take care of first. Number 1, I've got to re-learn how to skate and number 2, come up with a cool Roller Derby name.

    Any suggestions?

Avocado Burritos by David Wolfe, p. 208

Since my last Juice Feast ended in March 08, I felt as if I were on a downward spiral into the abyss. I have been riddled with guilt for giving myself the wonderful gift of Juice Feasting and (becoming healthy) only to have pissed it away.

For two years I was sad, lost and confused. I was reaching for some joy in the form of pizza, Sangria and cigarettes. I haven’t been able to rid myself of that sinking feeling you get when you are trapped in quicksand. That is, until now, until I created David Wolfe’s Avocado Burritos.

Ok, before you send me to the loony bin, let me explain. It wasn’t that the recipe itself is spectacular, sorry Mr. Wolfe, it’s isn’t. It’s just guacamole. This recipe re-ignited my passion for preparing raw foods and to sharing the things I discover with you. Who would have thought the uncomplicated ingredients of avocados, jalapenos and tomatoes wrapped in lettuce leaves would cause me to smile and find a spark of happiness in my heart.

    RAW FOOD (photos)

The aroma of the produce as I mashed away, the enthusiasm I received styling the dish, the gratification of taking a picture and the waterworks that fell as I wrote these words. I finally feel like I belong somewhere, even if it’s confined to a blog. I am absolutely, completely, utterly fine with that.

All this was as much of a shock as orange juice in this recipe. Who would have thought to replace traditional lime with orange? I guess that‘s why he is who he is. Different, neither good nor bad, just different. Well, thank you all the same, David Wolfe.
