Okay, I have exactly 33 minutes to tell you about The Almanac before I whisk my beautiful children off to the park for some much needed mommy time.
Here we go.
The Daily Raw Blog's Almanac 2010 ebook is available for purchase. It has been a long time coming.
I have wanted to do a book for the longest time, but I couldn't find a platform to add to already rich and exciting raw community.
A recipe book was the obvious choice but there are some many really good books out there and I didn't feel I could add anything spectacular and different to the mix. And when I started writing cookbooks (4 to be exact) I wasn't feeling it. I wasn't focused and I really didn't know what I wanted to say with the book.
Then came the Almanac. In the same vain as The Old Farmer's Almanac, the focus of the Daily Raw Blog's Almanac is information. Specifically, providing useful information on raw culinary food and the raw lifestyle in a fun and down-to-earth manner.
There were a few things that I wanted to have when it came to a book. Information, recipes and longevity.
I have accomplished that with The Daily Raw Blog's Almanac 2010
Information: A calendar listing for July-December, a reference guide to raw food coaches, restaurants, spas and retreats, how to set up a raw kitchen, media and a few more fun surprises.
Recipes: Over 50 recipes from The Daily Raw Blog, some from the blog and of course some new ones to add to your raw recipe collection.
Longevity: This is the fun part for me. I get to work on the Almanac every year for as long as we (you, me and the almanac) will have each other. There will be an updated version of the Almanac yearly. Each year, the basic reference guide will be updated but there will always be new recipes, new information about the lifestyle. And I am opening it up to the masses. There are some great features, "Commentary on Raw" and "My Raw Journey" that will be a wonderful outlet for writers and bloggers to express themselves.
When I come back from culinary school in August, I am going to work immediately on The Daily Raw Blog's Almanac 2011.
I enjoyed writing The Daily Raw Blog's Almanac and I hope you enjoy reading it. I am so excited for the opportunities this book can bring for the raw food community. It is a way to let the world know that eating raw isn't about carrot sticks or percentages, it's about the people who choose to live and love a vibrant life that is filled with food that is ALIVE and that the "movement" (LOL) continues to grow and thrive.
If it all sounds groovy, you can purchase the ebook here.
Okay, I have four minutes left. Just enough time to give FOUR lucky winners an ebook copy of The Daily Raw Blog's Almanac.

Remember the earlier you get it to the Daily Raw Blog, the earlier and more often it runs on the website.
There’s no question about it, embracing a raw food lifestyle comes with its fair amount of changes. Weight loss, excess energy, the “Glow”, the increased knowledge of nutrition, the “condescending” smirk one might bestow upon cooked friends, the list goes on and on. When you first go raw, the excitement overwhelms you so much, it can be hard not to let it consume your life.
That would be fine if you didn’t have a life that is shared with a loved one.
When I first went raw I had the luxury to share the journey with Man on the Raw. We went “crazy” raw together, only annoying (and alienating) our friends and family with our new found life.
There might have been bumps in the road during our marriage. If one or both of us fell off the "raw" wagon, hostility, resentment, jealousy would ensue, manifesting itself in petty arguments over who used the last of the lettuce or even worse an avocado. Why would you eat those ‘since you aren‘t even raw anymore?’
Through it all, the basic principle (the adhesive that keep us raw and together) why we wanted to maintain a raw lifestyle, stuck with us. Raw foods make us feel alive good and it could be the golden ticket to both of us growing old gracefully, together.
Honestly, I don’t know what I would have done if Man on the Raw agree to go on this raw journey with me. Back in the day, there wasn’t a book in existence that discussed the raw-cooked relationship. Until now, that is.
The e-book “Me Raw-You Cooked” by Emma and Rod MacDougall is really, really good. It touches on the raw food lifestyle a tad but the essence of the book focuses on how to maintain your raw-cooked relationship without driving each other away.
The book is written in three sections. The first being a modern-day love story of a Raw Girl and her cooked fiancé, struggling to survive in their relationship. Emma writes about her passage into a raw lifestyle as Rod shares his thoughts on various situations in their relationship. Reading this section, I was literally rooting for this young couple to work things out and live happily ever after, despite the enormous wedge raw foods had created between them.
Section two is geared toward both the raw foodie and the cooked partner, giving a balanced perspective of what the other might be feeling regarding the raw way of life. Keeping the lines of communication open is emphasized as an important tool to get through the rough spots of the raw-cooked relationship. A must read is the segment called “Recipes for Disaster,” which offers practical tips for common raw-cooked pitfalls. The final section of the book delivers tasty recipes for raw and cooked partners. “Lisa’s Split Personality Salad” is a good example of the balance between the two worlds. It features a raw zucchini noodle salad for the raw foodie and a Prawn and (rice) noodle salad for the cooked partner. “Me Raw-You Cooked” does a good job at balancing the two sides to the raw-cooked relationship coin and proves that both sides are of equal value.
Jane’s Kaleiscious Chips 3 big bunches of curly kale 1 red pepper 1 tablespoon raw tahini 1 tablespoon tamari 2 tablespoon nutritional yeast flakes ½ cup ground sunflower seeds (or pumpkin or sesame)
Remove the stalks from the kale and tear up leaves in to bite-sized chunks. Blend the pepper, tahini, tamari, yeast flakes and seeds and pour on to kale leaves. Massage the mixture until all the kale is thoroughly coated. Dehydrate over night at 105 degrees until nice and crisp!
These dish is a great substitute for popcorn.
Would you like a copy of the e-book “Me Raw-You Cooked?” I want to offer one (1) lucky winner a copy.
Here is how to enter -
Following Susan’s lead at Rawmazing, all you have to do is to ask a question you have about raw food, raw food cuisine, juicing, etc. in this post’s comment area and I will answer the question in a future posting. It’s win-win.
Please feel free to enter as many times as you want, just add another comment with a new question. No limited of the questions you ask.
The contest will end Friday night, March 26 at 11:59 p.m. (EST) IS CLOSED. I'll enter the numbers in the handy-dandy True Random Number Generator and announce the winner on the Daily Raw Café, Monday, March 29th.
Since this is an e-book this contest is open to anyone in the entire universe and beyond, as long as you have access to an email (your email will not be posted, I just need it to send you the ebook).

Man on the Raw and I first went raw on February 16, 2004, it was a Valentine Day’s gift to ourselves. We went to Barnes and Noble in Aurora, Colorado and were determined to find an eating program we could do together. The first two raw books we bought were David Wolfe’s “Nature’s First Law: The Raw Food Diet” and “The Complete Book of Raw Food.” I have been blessed to begin my raw food adventure with my husband.
No matter how far one or both of us may stray off the raw path, we both know the importance of getting back on track and finding some sort of balance in our lives. I realize that we may be the exception and not the rule. Many people who embrace raw foods do so alone, and in the beginning, it can be a very isolating experience. Friends and family don’t understand the weird new “diet” you are on and can’t seem to understand why a slab of cow is bad for your health. It can be hard going it alone.
Thank heavens for Raw Food online communities.
I have been exploring raw foods for six years and even now I embrace community. I am a member at Give it to Me Raw, Global Juice Feast, Juicefeasting.com, Daily Raw Inspiration and most recently Raw Food Rehab. I observe for the most part, reading the forums, sharing my photos and commenting whenever a topic moves me and I can add something constructive to the conversation. Raw communities are a wonderful place to share your raw triumphs, tribulations and everything in between. I encourage you, if you haven’t already, join community.
I am a huge fan of author and owner of RAWvolution and Euphoria Loves Rawvolution, Matt Amsden. On Tuesday he will share his “10 Thoughts” and Wednesday his recipes, from the Complete Book of Raw Food Endeavor, make an appearance.
On Friday, I review the ebook “Me Raw: You Cooked,” the story of Emma MacDougall’s raw journey and how it affected her relationship with her (then) fiancée, Rod. The first of its kind, the book focuses raw foodies and their non-raw partners, providing insightful guidance, tips and recipes along the way. Also, one lucky reader will have a chance to win the book.
To get the week started here is a brief list of online communities where you can communicate with others interested in the raw food lifestyle.
Raw Food Rehab Global Juice Feast Juicefeasting.com Living and Raw Foods Daily Raw Inspiration Give It To Me Raw Gone Raw Raw Food Talk Raw Food Lifestyle VegSource.com
Can you think of more opportunities (support groups, rawlucks, etc.) or online sites where raw foodies can converse?
